SongForge FAQ

Why is the Percussion/Drumkit on Channel 10?
This is due to comply best with midi specifications.

What do I get for activating the 'Plus' feature?
Ads will deactivate. There will be a handy scrollbar in it's place on the piano screen. You will be able to activate additional channels.

What if I activate 'Plus' and change phone?
If you click to activate the feature on your new phone, the app will be able to re-activate the feature (you may have to press 'previous purchase' button on some versions). Please ensure your phone can communicate to the store provider at this time.

Can I transfer my song into another app?
Yes, the songs are saved using standard midi specifications most programs will be able to import them.  You may however have to reallocate instruments if you have used custom instrument midi numbers.

Exciting road to iOS

Exciting times...

Been busy working on apple platforms. So great news for iPhone/iPad users.  Songforge will be available for those platforms very soon.

Also coming up is the new Instrument editor, which has been in the works for a few months now. With it you will be able to add your own samples.

NOV 2015 UPDATE: Now available on appstore also.

Instruments Progress

It's been a couple of months and I have many ideas where this can go.

I have the start of my instrument editor code in place and the first phase will be interface to set the reference notes. Initially this will help to customise the drum-kit in particular and will have an effect similar to tensioning the skins.

In other news I got myself a mini-mac so maybe will lead the way to an iOS version.

Note Strengths

We all know that when you play music notes can be played softly or more strong..

Today saw an update to the Editor / Sequencer. Now you can edit the strength of each individual note to be played easily. Here's how.

1. Enter the sequencer if not already (SEQ button on the far right)
2. Click MOVE button to change to SIZE mode.
3. Drag over any note - left right will change duration, up down will change strength.

How easy is that!!

If you have not yet - download SongForge - the Mobile Music Studio for Android now.

Tips for Writing Music

Here is the first hint that I find useful for writing music on your android.

Timing is a good start..

Maybe it's because I am a drummer, but I find that putting a basic beat down helps keep everything contained.  So how would I start?  Whether I want a slow or a rapid beat, I would first lower the "Beats Per Minute" (bpm). This will help you record a steady beat on the drum-kit before you ramp things up later.

It's All New!

Here we are at the launch of a brand new app.  It's been a long time in development and even though there are many more feature ideas, it's time to let it all out..

The piano sounds beautiful, as do the other instruments for that matter.  I am particularly happy with the editor / sequencer.

The last few days have been taken with things like creating a promo video that shows it all off.

At last we have settled on this..

It took me a while to get that version of The Entertainer right but I think you will agree it sounds great and I did the drum line in one take on the tap drum-kit!  I was proud of that one and it goes to prove what can be done with this.

THE HISTORY

I have often tried to use computers to create music and started back in the 80's when I began to write my own computer games.

SongForge started life as a Tracker for the Commodore Amiga back in the early 90's but it was forgotten for a great many years...

Fast forward to the present day, I tried downloading a few apps on my Android phone and was left disappointed - So I re-created SongForge from scratch as a mobile app.
